What I learned as a graduate of West Point and as an Airborne Ranger is that an asset can change the outcome of a battle it is called a "force multiplier".  It doesn't matter how large or small the asset, it's the results that matter.  Companies embrace this concept all the time whether knowingly or unknowingly.  
 
HBR reported in a 2016 article called "Why Leadership Training Fails—and What to Do About It" that the United States spent over $160 billion on employee training and education in hopes that they will become a force multiplier to help their organization meet and/or exceed corporate financial goals.  In the HBR article, they laid out a compelling argument on why leadership training fails.  I think their entire argument can be summed up in the article's first sentence.  "For the most part, the learning doesn’t lead to better organizational performance, because people soon revert to their old ways of doing things."
 
Having personally attended numerous training seminars, it's easy to feel disillusioned when you can't implement any of the techniques and skills that you have learned.  I'm not the only one who feels leadership training resources are being misdirected. Kristi Hedges wrote an article for Forbes

magazine titled "If You Think Leadership Development Is A Waste Of Time You May Be Right".  She writes, "… so many times, after the leadership program ends, new behaviors aren’t sustained. Studies have found that adult learners in a lecture setting forget nearly 50% of what they learn within two weeks."
